Automation Systems

Automation systems and PLC integration for modern production

Automation should make production more consistent, not more fragile. URang designs and integrates control systems that fit your process — PLC programming, HMI and SCADA, motion, sensing and safety — and commissions them with your operators, not around them.

What's included

Everything needed to make it work

A complete scope, not a list of billable extras. Here is what this service covers.

PLC programming & integration

New control logic, modifications to existing programs, and clean documented code you can maintain.

HMI & SCADA development

Operator screens and supervisory systems that show what matters and make alarms actionable.

Robotics & motion integration

Robot cells, servo motion, conveyors and indexing systems tied into the line controls.

Retrofits & legacy upgrades

Replace obsolete controls while reusing the mechanical assets that still have years of life.

Safety circuits & interlocks

Properly designed e-stops, guarding interlocks and safety relays that meet the intent of the application.

Data collection & OEE

Production counts, downtime reasons and runtime data captured at the controller and reported where you need it.

Problems we solve

The failures we see every week

  • Manual steps limiting throughputTargeted automation of the bottleneck, not the whole plant at once.
  • Inconsistent quality between operatorsRecipe-driven control and interlocks that make the correct method the easy method.
  • Labor shortages on repetitive tasksAutomation of dull, dirty and dangerous work so skilled staff handle higher-value tasks.
  • Legacy controls nobody can modifyMigration to a supported platform with documented, commented logic.
  • No visibility into downtime causesController-level data collection that shows where hours are actually lost.
  • Aging line with obsolete partsPhased retrofit that keeps production running while controls are modernized.

Who we help

Built for organizations that cannot afford downtime

We work with businesses of every size, from a five-person office to a multi-line plant.

How it works

What working with us looks like

Automation work starts with the process, not the hardware. We watch the line run, talk to the operators who live with it, and identify where time, quality or safety is actually being lost. The goal is a focused improvement with a measurable return, not a showcase full of technology that nobody asked for.

From there we produce a scope that includes sequence of operation, I/O lists, safety requirements, operator interface design and acceptance criteria. You see exactly what the system will do and how we will prove it works before a single panel is built. Changes to scope are agreed in writing, which keeps budgets honest on both sides.

Programming and integration happen off site where possible, with factory acceptance testing before anything is installed. On-site commissioning is scheduled around production, and operators are trained on the new screens and procedures rather than handed a manual. A control system only delivers value when the people running it trust it.

After commissioning we provide the program archive, drawings, a spare-parts list and ongoing support. If your maintenance team wants to make small changes themselves, we will show them how and document the guardrails. The objective is a system you own and understand, not one you are locked out of.

Why URang

What you get that a generalist cannot offer

Process before product

We automate the bottleneck that pays back, not the demo that photographs well.

Documented and supportable

Programs, drawings and spare lists are handed over. You are never locked out of your own equipment.

Operator-centered design

Screens and procedures are built with the people who run the line, which is why the system actually gets used.

Service area

Local response across the Dayton metro

Automation projects are delivered across Dayton, Kettering, Moraine, Miamisburg, Vandalia, Troy, Piqua, Springfield and the surrounding Miami Valley, with remote programming support available more broadly. We work alongside your maintenance team and integrators where that is the best fit.

Not sure whether you are in range? Call (937) 226-9466 (Dayton) or (989) 286-5123 (Michigan), or email urang@urangit.com and we will tell you honestly whether we can help and what it would take.

Common questions

Automation Systems — FAQ

Which PLC platforms do you program?

Allen-Bradley/Rockwell (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix), Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron and AutomationDirect are common. We will confirm platform support before quoting.

Should we retrofit or replace the machine?

If the mechanicals are sound, a controls retrofit usually costs far less than a new machine and can be phased around production. We assess both options and give you the numbers.

How long does an automation project take?

A focused cell or station may take a few weeks; a full line retrofit can take several months. We break work into milestones so you see progress and can plan production around it.

Can you integrate with our existing equipment?

Yes. Integration with existing conveyors, robots, drives and safety systems is a normal part of the scope.

Do you handle safety compliance?

We design to the intent of applicable machine safety requirements and coordinate with your safety lead. Final certification, where required, is handled with a qualified safety professional.

Do you support the system after commissioning?

Yes. We provide documentation, operator training and ongoing support, including remote troubleshooting and program changes.
